Master of Applied
Finance
(MAppFin)
The aim of this program is to raise skills in Applied Finance. The Master of Applied Finance covers each of the major areas of financial markets, funds management corporate finance, and banking. Teaching is by finance industry practitioners and Macquarie Universitys highly experienced staff. The Master’s degree is truly portable and international. It is available in Singapore, Tokyo, and a number of Australian cities. One can start the program in Sydney and finish it in, say, Singapore. Richard Tinsley, President, International Advisory and Finance, is a visiting fellow at the Applied Finance Centre based in Sydney and the Macquarie U campus. The Program Director is Professor Phil Dolan ELECTIVE Business rationale for project finance is examined. A risk system is used to identify and allocate risk in the various approaches to structuring a project financing. Cashflow measures are defined and used to judge the project finance size and repayment method. Funding , political risk, structuring, and recent capital market developments are highlighted with practical case studies. The international character of project finance is emphasised. TIMING AND LOCATION OF CLASSES Study is either part-time or full-time. Part-time study is usually at the Applied Finance Centre, 10 Spring Street, in Sydney. Full-time classes are generally at the University campus at Ryde, near Sydney. STATUS WITH PROFESSIONAL BODIES This Masters program is recognised as: | meeting the education requirements for Senior Associate status of the Australian Institute of Banking and Finance, provided the units include Strategic Marketing in Finance and either Commercial Bank Management or Management of Financial Institutions; | meeting the education requirements for full membership of the Australian Society of Corporate Treasurers, provide the units include Capital Raising and Corporate Treasury Management; | a post graduate specialist course in Treasury by the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants; and | an industry qualification for licensing of finance
practitioners by the Australian Securities Commission.
POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN APPLIED FINANCE This program is, in essence, half of the Masters program. To complete the requirements for the Postgraduate Certificate, one can study either: | two core units and four elective topics; or | three core units and two elective topic.
Overall, the requirements are half those for the Masters of Applied Finance program if performance is satisfactory in the Postgraduate Certificate program. APPLICATIONS Programs commence in either February or July each year. For further information please contact:
